We offer high quality training courses that have been developed to share our knowledge and hands on experience of Fibre Optics in harsh environments. We were the first European company to be approved by the Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) to perform ARINC and SAE approved training for fibre optics to the Aerospace industry.    SAE 5602 – Fabricator - Aerospace Platform Fibre Optic Training 

SAE LogoA 5-day course, Fibre optic fabricator technical training is designed for individuals involved in the manufacturing, installation, support, integration and testing of fibre optic systems. Applicable personnel include: Managers, Engineers, Technicians, Trainers/Instructors, Third Party Maintenance Agencies, Quality Assurance & Production.

This comprehensive course provides a focussed blend of theory and practical hands on training. The course covers the essential elements of fibre technology, how it works, the hardware, techniques and best practice, test equipment and test methods.

SAE 5602/3 – Knowledge Competencies (3 Days)

SAE 5602/4 – Hands On Practical Training (2 Days)

This element covers the identification and use of hardware, inspection and cleaning of fibre optics, basic test of fibre cables, assembly and test of connectors (with a focus on MIL-PRF-29504 and 38999 connector technology). To successfully complete this training each student must perform each competency in the presence of the instructor.

Hands on training includes; Identification of fibre types (singlemode, multimode, core sizes etc.)

Continuity testing, basic fault location, bend loss effects, wavelength visibility, cable identification, cleaning and inspection of fibre connectors, termination, build and test of jumpers (with FC, ST, MIL-PRF-29504/4 & /5 termini), connector assembly and insertion loss testing.


Exam: Optional

SAE 5602/3 & /4 course students have the option to take the accredited SAE Fabricator exam. Administered through the ETA, successful students will hold the SAE 5602 Fabricator qualification.

  ARINC 807 – Aerospace Platform Fibre Optic Training

ARINC 807 Fibre Optic Training Requirements are based on SAE 5602 but are designed to meet the requirements of the commercial air transport industry.

ARINC 807 has particular emphasis on connector hardware ARINC 801 (LuxCis) and EN4531 (ELIO) connectors.

AVoptics offers three accredited qualification courses as follows:


 

ARINC 807 – Fundamentals

This introductory course provides a good grounding in the principles of fibre optic transmission, hardware, safety awareness, basic characteristics of fibre cables and connectors, labelling, basic test equipment and inspection. A small hands-on element includes identification of fibre and cable types, main connector hardware, wavelength visibility, cleaning and basic fault finding. To successfully complete this training each student must perform each competency in the presence of the instructor.

Duration: 2 Days (Theory & Hands On)

Exam: Optional

 

ARINC 807 Fundamental course students have the option to take the accredited SAE Fundamentals exam. Administered through the ETA, successful students will hold the ARINC 807 Fundamantals qualification.

ARINC 807 – Installer

Building on the Fundamentals syllabus, this course develops further both knowledge and hand-on competencies in aerospace fibre optics. This course is intended for engineers, installers and operators that work with the technology in aerospace.

Theoretical aspects include principles of fibre transmission, links and measurement units, safety awareness, fibre transmission, fibre/cable construction, interconnects and hardware, harnessing techniques, labelling, basic cleaning, inspection, test & measurement.

The hands-on element of this course includes continuity testing, basic fault location,  interconnect hardware identification, cable identification, wavelength visibility, basic transmission issues and faults; assembly and insertion loss test of ARINC 801 and EN4531 interconnects, end-face evaluation, correct fibre optic installation/mounting practice. To successfully complete this training each student must perform each competency in the presence of the instructor.

Duration: 3 Days (Theory & Hands On)

Exam: Optional

ARINC 807 Installer course students have the option to take the accredited ARINC Installer exam. Administered through the ETA, successful students will hold the ARINC 807 Installer qualification.

ARINC 807 – Fabricator

Following most of the content of the SAE 5602 Fabricator syllabus (see above), this comprehensive course has a particular focus  on the ARINC 801 and EN4531 optical termini in service on many platforms. Fabrication of test leads and assembly/test of these interconnects are included in the practical hands-on elements of the course.

This course can be run in isolation or combined with SAE 5602 as detailed below.

ARINC 807 Fabricator course students have the option to take the accredited ARINC Fabricator exam. Administered through the ETA, successful students will hold the ARINC 807 Fabricator qualification.

SAE 5602 Fabricator & ARINC 807 Installer – Combined Course
 

This course combines both the SAE 5602 Fabricator and ARINC Installer competencies into one comprehensive course.

Interconnects covered include MIL-PRF-29504/4 & /5, ARINC 801 and EN4531.

Duration: 5 Days (Theory & Hands On)

Exam: Optional

Course students have the option to take the combined accredited SAE Fabricator & ARINC 807 Installer exam. Administered through the ETA, successful students will hold both the SAE 5602 Fabricator and the ARINC 807 Installer qualifications. Fibre Optics in Aerospace 

AV Optics , together with  Lucid and JSC Aeroptics, are pleased to be offering another of our successful “Fibre Optice in Aerospace” workshop/training courses. This is a 2-day course which offers an up to date review of the status of Fibre optics in the Aerospace Industry, and supplies information on best practice in how to successfully implement, support and maintain Fibre Optic technology in the Aerospace industry.The Aerospace Industry is now using Fibre Optics in aircraft for many applications and many major projects are now entering production. In order to meet aerospace requirements these installations have often used components and techniques that are unfamiliar in the higher volume datacoms or telecoms markets, and require different approaches to design, manufacture, test and supportability. This course provides delegates with an understanding of why differences exist for the aerospace market, what has been learnt from previous applications, and the current position of the technology.

The training course provides an up to date review of the status of Fibre optics in the Aerospace Industry and supplies essential information on best practice in how to successfully implement, support and maintain Fibre Optic technology in Aerospace. On completion of the course delegates will receive a certificate of event attendance, and all trainees get a comprehensive full-colour training manual packed with a wealth of information on fibre optics in the aerospace industry.

Certification

AVoptics is an approved certification administrator for the Electronics Technicians Association International (ETA International). Upon successful completion of the training, the individual will receive an ETA certification with endorsements for the types of termini, cable, and connectors completed during the course of instruction. The ETA will maintain certification records. The ETA administers both SAE and ARINC qualifications.

Where required, individuals shall be certified after successful completion of training and prior to working on aerospace fibre optic systems, components, or installations. Certification shall be compliant with aerospace industry approved training programs.

Certification will be valid initially for a one year period with a proficiency review carried out annually after this time. Recertification shall be required if deemed necessary and is dependent on the individual’s training and experience.
